It&#8217;s been 20 years since the seemingly arbitrary\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dccps.nci.nih.gov\/5ad_3_origins.html\">five-a-day rule was conceived<\/a>\u00a0by a group of carrot-peddling fruit and veg companies in California, but it would seem that we Brits haven&#8217;t taken this particular stroke of marketing genius to belly, for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.onmedica.com\/newsarticle.aspx?id=6cb98116-2efb-4a40-a3b1-92427a8c2a9e\">we eat the fewest vegetables in all of Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are we not eating our greens, according to a recent study\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metro.co.uk\/news\/887566-over-half-the-meals-eaten-outside-the-home-are-from-fast-food-restaurants\">over half of the meals eaten out<\/a>\u00a0in this country are \u2013 gasp! \u2013 fast food.<\/p>\n<p>As ever, the press cherry-pick the naughty side of fast food and have us believe that we&#8217;re scarfing tonnes of cheese-slapped patties flopped between two halves of a bun with a squirt of acrid gunge and a side order of fries.
