Last week one of our Secret Larder guests texted in a panic to say the babysitter had cancelled and could she bring her four-year-old son along. I ummed and aahed and then rather sheepishly phoned to explain that I felt it might be a bit tricky in terms of seating and for the other guests. I didn’t like being so unyielding but thought, on reflection, that it was probably the right thing to do.

Later that day, as Signe Johansen kicked me around the kitchen preparing the magnificent Scandinavian feast she fed my guests that night, she suggested I do a kids’ night. Parents who can’t come to supper clubs due to having kids at home can bring the little ones, meet other parents and the kids can bond over some food that is a little different but hopefully not completely abhorrent to them.

So that’s what I’m going to do. On Saturday 3rd September we’re going to do the first children’s night. If it’s a success it might become a monthly event. We shall see. If you’d like to come along then email me – jteramsden@gmail.com.

Oh, and the theme will be Roald Dahl – snozzcumbers, Bruce Bogtrotter’s chocolate cake, that sort of thing.

Cost is £20 a head. Kick off is 5.30pm.

I might regret this.
