Oh jamon! Pinky promise Jamie’s American dream ends *****

Other food news this week: *****

Piece of the week: *****

Video of the week:

It’s National Vegetarian Week and so there’s been rather a lot in the news about lovely meat. Well we already knew that we shouldn’t be eating too much red meat but, well, they’re telling us again. They’re also saying we should avoid processed meats like ham and salami altogether, due to their link to bowel cancer.

Most of us knew this already too, but the USDA declared it officially safe for us to eat pink pork. It used to be believed that pork had to be cooked to 71C to make it safe, but now it seems 63C is the magic number.
After his fairly unsuccessful (but admirable) attempt to convert Americans to eating healthy food, Jamie Olive Oil will return to Blighty for his next series. Jamie’s Great Britain will focus on pub grub and classic British dishes. Sounds rather more straightforward than persuading 300 million people to ‘sit around eating lettuce all day’.
