The first time I found myself at Camino, a Spanish bar in King’s Cross, was for my boyfriend’s work night out. As it was my introduction to his colleagues you can imagine how I had to exercise restraint when it came to sharing the tapas tidbits I had gingerly selected from the vast range of options. Coming from a family of 6 where ‘etiquette’ went as far as ‘eat it before someone else gets there first,’ holding back was an unfamiliar experience, so I was delighted when my brother was offered a table just for two.<\/div>\n
If your mouth is in the mood for a party then Camino is certainly worth investigating. The dishes are traditional and varied, taking you on a culinary journey through the different regions of Spain, as the name suggests. The diner’s voyage, however, should be a small undertaking, as the restaurant is bang next to the station at the bottom of an office complex in Regent Quarter. Don’t let this put you off though as the atmosphere inside is warm and contemporary with brick walls, candlelit tables and an open kitchen. This may have contributed to the numerous tables of two enjoying an intimate sharing platter, whose innocent flirtations were interrupted when James hit upon the unlucky one-in-a-hundred killer Pimiento de Padron and nearly keeled over at the tabla. Some other less challenging delights of the night were scallops with saffron and boffard cream, king prawns with alioli, tortilla de patatas and of course chorizo, which should be ordered with your most pronounced Manuel-inspired ‘th.’ If you don’t fancy the lengthy dining experience of the restaurant proper then the bar (winner of The Observer ‘Bar of the year’ award) is a more casual option, with an indulgent cocktail menu and some tapas to steady you. It’s also ideal for a pre-dinner loosener or digestif if you need a change of scenery. Or just another drrrrrink.<\/div>\n
